cummins falls

The girls did not sleep well Friday night. Caimbree started a little cough a few days before we left, but it didn't seem serious and I figured it could be allergies.  The cough unfortunately got a lot worse by Friday night and when we got back in the room from swimming, she felt warm to me.  Savanna and Heidi both started coughing that day as well and Savanna felt a little warm that evening too.  In the morning they were up so early because of their coughs.  Heidi was funny because at 1:30 in the morning she woke up coughing and said, "Is it time to go have breakfast now?"  They fell back asleep but were up by 6.  Savanna and Caimbree definitely felt warm and wouldn't eat any breakfast.  Heidi didn't feel warm, but her cough was constant.  We decided we were already there and we decided to just stick with the two shorter hikes instead of heading to Fall Creek Falls.

We stopped at Kroger and grabbed some Advil and Tylenol and gave it to the girls to make them more comfortable and they were acting okay once it kicked in.
Savanna and Caimbree were quite the hikers!  I wasn't sure how Caimbree would do without a hiking backpack but she just plowed along and rode on Jeff's shoulders from time to time.  Heidi was hit or miss with her complaining haha.  She does better when she has other friends with her when she hikes to keep her mind off of the heat.  Her aversion to the heat makes me laugh so hard.

Cummins falls was a great hike!  It never ceases to amaze me at how beautiful Tennessee is.  We just cannot get enough of the scenery absolutely love hiking together.  Cummins Falls was about a 2 mile hike round trip so it was totally doable.

What we didn't realize before we left was that part of the trail to the base of the waterfall goes right through the water.  So cool!!  Unfortunately we weren't prepared shoe wise so we didn't go all the way to the base, but we did let the girls walk through the water in their flip flops for a ways.

On our way back we climbed up these stairs where we had set our stuff while we got in the water.  Heidi noticed a copperhead snake under one of the steps!!  She has such good eyes and is so observant.  I'm glad the snake appeared to be sleeping and unaware of us stepping over it.  The girls talked about that snake the rest of the hike!

We definitely want to do the Cummins Falls hike again soon when we get the girls some proper water shoes!
