sisters

I love these girls so much.  I love how much they love each other.  Savanna is always watching Heidi and usually has a huge grin on her face while she watches Heidi play.  Heidi loves her "sissy sis" and often has her hands on her.  That's why I love the top picture.  I really, really hope my girls will be best friends.  I always wanted a sister and I hope they won't take it for granted.
I am so grateful that Heidi has been so sweet and gentle with Savanna.  She is starting to show jealousy when I give Savanna something to play with that she is sure is hers, but thankfully she has never been mean to Savanna.  She will always, always stop what she is doing to give her little sister a kiss.
I can't believe I get to be the mom to these two beautiful little girls.  Although I would love for flu season to end so I can stop being so paranoid about them getting sick, I wish time wouldn't go so quickly.  I look at them and wonder where the time is going because it seems they are growing and changing every time I blink.

Oh Heidi Heids

Two is such a funny age.  Heidi never ceases to crack us up everyday.  Her latest is to give us nicknames.  I have always called her Heids or Heidi Heids and she now refers to everyone that way--mommy moms, daddy dads, teddy teds, grammy grams and so on.  She also likes to call me mom-o or mama lams or all sorts of names that I have no idea where they come from.  In the above picture she managed to stick an entire pack of stickers to the table...ugh.  It took me a long time to take them off and I was grateful I had goo gone.
Heidi's latest obsession are all of her stuffed animals.  She hauls the whole stack all over the house. She puts them down for naps, takes them to the doctor to give them their shots, gives them baths, and swaddles them and rocks them to sleep.  The conversations she has with them crack me up.  When she got up from her nap and found her giant Care Bear she said, "Oh Care Bear!  I just love you big guy!  You're so lucky to have Heidi!"
Heidi not only repeats everything we say, but she wants to do everything we do.  In the morning she runs into my room to get everything I need to run.  She carries everything out and says, "Exercise, mom!"  After she gets me set up, she goes and gets my other shoes so she can exercise too.  I often catch her around the house doing "push ups" and counting.  I will be downstairs and hear her saying, "ONE! TWO! THREE!"  When I ask her what she's doing she says, "I'm doing my push ups."
Heidi says the funniest things in the morning when I go get her.  She is always so happy when I open the door and pops right up.  She usually says things like, "I'm still in my blue pajamas!  Heidi LOVES blue!"  Sometimes it's, "I'm still in my big girl bed!"  I don't know why she thinks I would move her or change her clothes in the middle of the night, but it's funny to hear her first thoughts in the morning.  After she lets me know what she is still wearing or where she slept, she usually says, "Where's my sissy sis?  We better go get her."
We have had stairs everywhere we have lived and Heidi has always done well with them.  Our stairs in the new house are all the more exciting because she has discovered she can get her toys downstairs faster by throwing them from the top (we have a two story great room).  I am so not a fan of this and unfortunately her dad pointed this little game out to her.  She always likes to sit at the very top and watch the fire.  She will say, "Look at the fire ripping and roaring!  We better stoke that fire."  She is going to be quite disappointed when the weather warms up and there is no fire.
And of course the little bean loves her daddy and loves her books.  If she is ever not right by my side, she can almost always be found in a rocking chair upstairs reading to herself.  I love to listen to her, but I have to pretend not to be there because she doesn't like me watching her. She gets so excited when Jeff comes home and is always anxious to tell him or show him something she did while he was away at work.  The other day she was excited to show Jeff what made her mom laugh so hard that day.  While I was feeding Savanna she was playing around on Savanna's play mat.  I was teasing her saying things like, "Can you kick the ball Heidi?  Can you swat the toys?"  Heidi was playing along thinking it was funny.  Then I heard Heidi say, "Now it's time for tummy time."  Then she laid on her stomach, smashed her face in the floor and started to pretend to cry.  Apparently she has picked up on the fact that Savanna isn't a huge fan of tummy time.

Thank you, Heidi Heids for making us laugh.
Life without you would be so boring.

a new accessory

As I was dejunking the diaper bag we came across Heidi's stylin' Dora sunglasses.  Since rediscovering them, she has insisted on wearing them all day, everyday.  Of course she has to keep them on her head and is constantly readjusting them.  It's quite comical when she forgets they are there and then tries to put all her necklaces on.  Is it just me or is 2 such a fun age?  I love watching all the little things she comes up with to keep herself entertained.

Two Month Shots and Stats

Savanna had her two month check-up today and just as I suspected, she is growing just fine although she is still on the small side.

Weight: 9 lb. 8 oz.--5th percentile
Height: 21 1/2 inches--5th percentile

She is actually the same height that Heidi was and a little less than a pound heavier.  Oh how we love this little angel.  She really has such a mild little temperament and she just gives the sweetest little grins!  She was all smiles at the doctor, which of course only made me feel worse about the shots.

I was so hesitant even to take her in because of how bad the flu is this year and apparently they are now seeing a huge outbreak in RSV...awesome.  Thank you so, so, so much to Jeff's mom who came up and watched Heidi so she wouldn't have to come along and touch every single thing at the doctor's office.  Heidi had been asking for her grandma a ton lately so it was so fun for her to see grandma.

Savanna is healthy and growing and developing right on track.  The doctor did however confirm my suspicions that she is suffering from silent reflux.  Her little throat is red and has sores from the acid and she is starting to retain fluid in her ears.  The doctor couldn't believe what a calm baby she is for having reflux.  Hopefully she will outgrow it soon and in the meantime she prescribed some medicine in hope of keeping acid levels down so she doesn't get ear infections.  Hopefully it will help her sleeping a little too, but really if it will just make her more comfortable and keep her from getting ear infections I will be thrilled.  We love sweet little Vanny Vans!

no thank you

Oh Heidi.  What a little ham she is.  The things she says always make me laugh.  I wish I would record more of the funny things she says, but then it's always funnier to actually hear her little voice say them.  Lately she always says, "no thank you"--even if it doesn't really sound right with what you ask.

"Come give me a hug!"  "No thank you."
"Time to go to nursery."  "No thank you."
"Let's clean the toy room."  "No thank you."
"Savanna needs to eat."  "No thank you".
"Can you go get mom a diaper?"  "No thank you."
Heidi also likes to remind me how busy she is.  The other morning I was running on the treadmill and Savanna started crying.  Heidi was sitting reading books right next to Savanna and when I asked her to put the binky in her sister's mouth she said, "I can't.  I'm kind of busy."  It's tough to be so busy when you're two.

Heidi is also very stylish these days.  She got some necklaces for Christmas and wears them all day, every day.  She also got a slap bracelet from her great grandma that says, "I am a child of God" and she wears that all day too.  In addition, if we go anywhere, she insists on wearing her snow boots.  At least on Sunday I can get her to wear her "church shoes", but that may not last long.  There is snow on the ground so she wants her boots.  If I happen to get her to wear something else, she wants to be carried so they don't "get ruined in the snow".

two months

I finally got my replacement camera so I was finally able to take some new pictures of the girls!  Savanna turned 2 months on January 2nd.  Where does the time go?  I can't believe we have ha this little angel for two whole months.  Savanna has the sweetest, most patient little personality and we all love her so much!
Here are some things that we have noticed Savanna doing lately.

*Swats at toys, especially the seahorse on her play mat.
*Likes to lay on the floor and have someone talk to her.
*Sooo smiley!!  As soon as she hears my voice she breaks out in a huge grin.  We LOVE her smiles!
*Mostly wears 0-3 month clothes, and although size 1 diapers would fit better, I am still squeezing her into the last of the newborn diapers!
*Her eyes are really blue and I am crossing my fingers that she will get my green eyes and we are really hoping her hair stays dark.
*Not a huge fan of tummy time, but we are working on it.
*Evenings are not her most stellar time of day.  Jeff thinks she doesn't like him since it hits about the time when he gets home, but I keep assuring him she just knows when it's dinner time.
*Not the most stellar sleeper.  She seems to have gas and reflux issues at night so she is not really consistent.  A good night she will go down around 8 and get up around 1:30 or 2 and then again around 5 or 6.
*Unlike her older sister, she absolutely loves her bath and loves the car.
*Loves patty cake
*Likes to suck on her fist and the hospital style binky.
We are having insurance issues so I haven't taken her for her 2 month check up, but I am not concerned about her growth.  She is a good eater and seems healthy in every way.  We are going in next week with insurance or without, so we will know for sure how much she has grown.

We love you Savanna!!!!

a very merry christmas

In an effort to make sure Savanna has the "second child syndrome" of having no pictures of herself, I managed to lose our camera and didn't know until Christmas morning.  I have seriously taken every single thing out of every closet and cupboard, all the boxes are unpacked, and there is absolutely no sign of the camera anywhere.  I have had it since we moved here because I have the picture of Heidi on her big girl bed.  The only thing I can think is that I somehow put it in the donation pile while we were unpacking.  The new camera is supposed to be here tomorrow and I really hope it is because I have a lot of catching up to do and the cell phone camera really is not cutting it.  So here are some rather lame pictures of our fun day.
The best part of our day of course was the fact that we were in our house.  We were beginning to sweat it, but we got in a week before Christmas.  The girls opened their Christmas PJs on Christmas Eve an looked adorable.  Heidi wants to wear her "Smish mus jammas" every night still and whenever she picks out Savanna's pajamas, they are always her first choice!
Grandma gave Heidi a suitcase and sleeping bag.  She can't wait to try it out next time we take a trip.
She had fun hiding in it and saying, "Where did that Heidi go?"
She LOVES kitties so the fact that it is Hello Kitty was a huge hit.

I love my two little girls and I love how sweet Heidi is to her little sister.  I know it won't be like this all the time, so I am trying to soak in all the sweet moments.  Every morning Heidi says, "Look at her!  Isn't she darling?"
Savanna is little miss smiles lately and we love it! There is nothing sweeter than to see her grinning back at you.

Heidi got a little doll stroller and loves to take stuff it full of her 'friends' (stuffed animals) and go shopping around the house.  We cant wait until the weather is nice and she can take her pals on walks with us outside.

Overall we had a nice, quiet Christmas.  Heidi was filled with excitement and was so cute opening her presents and Savanna was content to sit back and watch and snooze when she got the chance!  We love holidays!
