Ready or Not, Here They Came....

I realize that most people have started school already. Today however, was the first day for our school district. My oh my. I forget every year just how stressful that first day really is. I forgot to take attendance (twice...they take it 2 times/day), I had no idea where to pick my kids when school started, and I was lucky to even get the lunch count in on time. I hate how disorganized I feel and especially being at a new school--most of the kids know more than I do!

They didn't have an open house so even though I was at school by 7:45, I already a room full of parents! UGH! I had no prep time because there were kids and parents from 7:45 until school started at 8:40. I think it's time to do an open house.

All in all, it was a decent day and I am exhausted. My feet hurt, my head hurts, and my throat hurts. I can't wait until we're settled into a routine.

Beth I feel your pain!!!! I am sure you will move those low kids you always moved the tough cases! Hang in there and soon you will love it...don't worry you will always miss Pony and the clean, unlimited paper life you had there!!!

Well, I'm sorry to hear about the negative things this new school year as brought for you! I'm sure you will do great things with them this year.

Did you hear that Doug is praising you for your super high test scores last year. I wish you could teach me how you did that!

Good luck on day 2... you'll be great!

Don't worry- it gets better! Last year was the hardest year of my career- but I still had the "shining moments" that make teaching great. And besides, with a room decorated as cute as yours is (I can tell from the picture), how can you not have a great year?! Call me if you ever want to complain, though. Trust me- I know just what you're going through!

Your room looks great. That is crazy that you had parents in your room that morning. I would've been going nuts! I think this school will learn a lot of great things from you.

I love your room. It's darling like I knew it would be. You will be fantastic there. You are a miracle worker. It won't be long before you have the kids eating out of the palm of your hand and up to par. I know you, you are amazing and those kids are lucky to have you. It's just the beginning of the year jitters. I still remember that feeling well. Hang in there, and good luck.

Miss you, miss you, miss you. Those kids don't know how lucky they are to have you! Your class and room remind me of my first year teaching first grade- notice that I'm a music teacher, now?

BTW, did I tell you we miss you?

Glad you made through the first day! Things will get better. And, from a veteran of a "rough" school, it is so much more rewarding when you see those kids progress!

Yikes! Good luck. But at least it sounds like you have a whole heck of a lot to offer the school in the way of improving things. And I mean that totally sincerely, not cliche.

Beth, I have no doubt that you will find ways to help those children and will probably make it look effortless too :). I finally got a chance to get onto your blog and the kids and I enjoyed reading it, Lizzie and Tanner liked the friends you are meeting lol.
Are you teaching 3rd grade for 2nd this year?
the kids say Hi

It's amazing how different things can be from school to school. Some things never change though and I'm sure you'll get your class into a routine that works for everyone. We miss seeing you, David says hi!
